 Three Chinese "National Standards" on RVs became effective June 1st, 2009, which could signal more RV-related standards are in the works and will become effective in the near future. The long-awaited standards came in at the right time and were applauded by the RV and campground industries. |

Many Chinese businesses eye RVs as the next "big" thing in China as people spend more time away from home for travel and vacations. Businesses import RVs and show them at major auto shows to solicit orders. Attempts have also been made to partner with foreign RV makers to manufacture RVs in China. China Minmetals Corp., a Fortune 500 company, has been scouting sites for RV production as well as campgrounds. Once decided, the mining heavyweight can lead the way in producing RVs and bring much needed energy to the industry.

Chinese RV makers need every opportunity to get exposure in the emerging RV market. Exhibiting at auto shows, gaining celebrity endorsement, appearing at high profile events... RV makers use these opportunities to grab attention and promote RVs. At the recent Shanghai International Film Festival, Zhongou, as one of the event sponsors, provided "limo" services to the stars and celebrities, including American actress Halle Berry and Hollywood film director John Woo. Instead of the usual stretch limos, the stars were riding Zhongou's Mercedes/Sprinter based Class Bs to the award ceremony. The photo opp when stars arrived really help the RVs shine.

Chinese appetite for affordable family cars has never been so strong, especially after the government provided new incentives for more fuel efficient vehicles late last year. Shoppers will again have an opportunity to kick tires at the auto show opening this week in north China’s Shenyang. The difference this time is that visitors will see American made RVs at the show. For many well-to-do Chinese families, RVs may very well be on their wish list (if not shopping list). Being able to see and check out RVs at the show will certainly help bring these families one step closer to owning a RV and become the first generation of Chinese RVers.
