Minmetals_logoChina’s state-owned enterprise China Minmetals Corporation, a Fortune 500 company, launches several RV projects to start its foray into the RV industry. According to Fuzhou Daily, Minmetals, joined by China Travel Service Hong Kong, acquired an auto maker in Fuzhou, Jiangxi province and turned it into its first RV manufacturing facility.

The Minmetals-CTS joint venture plans to produce chassis, motorized RVs, and mobile homes at this Fuzhou facility. When it’s in full production in 5 years, the facility expects to be able to produce 60,000 chassis, 10,000 motorized RVs, and 30,000 mobile homes in a year.

Minmetals is also in talks with other SOEs, private enterprises, and local governments to develop R&D, production, and sales capacities for RVs in the greater Shanghai area and the Pearl River Delta area. Campgrounds, RV resorts, RV rentals, and RV clubs are also included in Minmetals strategic plan.

China’s RV industry has been growing slowly over the past 10 years. Lack of RV friendly infrastructure has been the major hurdle. It’s believed that Minmetals’ entry will change the landscape of the industry.
