Camel and the Silk RoadChina’s history, cultural heritage, ethnic diversity, and natural endowments attract millions of foreign tourists each year. Some people visit China by joining organized tourist groups. Others simply go on a self-guided tour. Still others embark on a months-long trip following the most well-known ancient trade route – the Silk Road – in RVs.

RV tour operators in Europe have been sending caravans to China and other Asian countries for some time. The tour operators work with their local hosts to provide RVers with programs and activities unavailable to typical tourist groups. In China, local hosts’ assistance is critical because of the lack of RV friendly infrastructure.

China Youth Travel Service (CYTS), one of China’s top travel agencies and tour operators, hosted its first inbound RV tour early this year. According to CYTS, the company sees great potential for inbound RV tours. “RV tour is new (in China). But with more and more inbound RV tours, domestic demand will also grow. We’ll watch the market and may launch our own RV rental operation,” says Luo Songtian, general manager of CYTS’ Eurasia division.    (Source:
